Teachers at AHS lately have been getting fit. They have been going to cross fit together as individuals and as teams and during their lunch they are trying to choose lighter and healthier choices. One of the many teachers in the building that is trying to slim down and feel fit is Jessica Johnson, a first year English teacher at AHS. She has been trying to go to cross fit at least three to four times a week while balancing all of her responsibilities of teaching and being AHS’s improv coach. She has been working out and eating healthy with Ana Kilbon, another teacher at AHS. Even some students are going to Cross fit with their teachers as well. “They keep me accountable, when I’m not there Cherlene, one of her freshman English students, especially, will give me a hard time.” said Johnson.
Pam Green another teacher AHS has is also been a big help for Johnson and the other students and staff in the building because she leads one of many cross fits. “We do a lot of different strength exercises, sit ups, pushups, and lots of different things with weights, “said Johnson.
Even though beginning and keeping a healthy lifestyle may be hard it’s something we should all try to do. “I started going to cross fit at the beginning of January, it’s never too soon to start a healthier lifestyle,” said Johnson.
In Colorado fourteen percent of children and twenty-two percent of adults are obese, we all need to be getting fit and AHS teachers are setting a great example, “Yes I do feel like I’m setting and keeping an example for students and other teachers in the building, “said Johnson.
Working out is a fun and healthy way to get rid of stress and to get fit for the summer season coming up soon and since its right here at the school it is something everyone could get involved in.
